Newton School tall copper vase

Description

A rather special tall copper vase/tankard made by the Newton School of Metal Work to a design by John Williams, circa 1900.

This is likely an exhibition piece as it is tall and impressive. The quality of the repousse work is excellent. The design can be found in the archive of the Newton School and is by John Williams. John Williams produced most of the designs for the School between 1892 and 1900. This is a variation of a design for fish amongst weeds which appeared in The Studio in 1896 as part of the Home Arts and Industries Association exhibition.

The piece is in great condition and displays beautifully.
