Newton School triangular copper dish

Description

A small triangular copper dish made by the Newton School of Metal Work, circa 1910.

The patriotic dish has the Scottish thistle, the English rose and the three leaf clover of Ireland in repousse. The edge of the dish has a “pie crust” shape which was commonly used by the School. The design appears in the School’s design archive and can also be made out in a photograph of the School’s stand at the 1913 Home Arts and Industries exhibition.

The design is most likely by John or Mary Williams.
