A E Jones silver motto vase

Description

A silver vase made by A E Jones for George Lawrence Connell in 1912.

The hand planished vase has applied silver rosettes and a motto around the top section. The motto reads “There’s Gladness in Remembrance”. This appears to have been a very popular turn of phrase at this time and appeared on many greetings cards and post cards. The bottom of the fluted vase has a rope twist edge. Fully hallmarked for G L Connell, Birmingham and 1912. 

It is well documented that A E Jones made pieces for other makers and retailers. A E Jones Ltd was very much a commercial venture.

An identical vase with a different motto appears in the A E Jones catalogue, circa 1910. This vase is stamped to the base with the same design number shown “596”.

Condition:   There are two small dings to the body and the top rim is pushed down very slightly in one spot
