Newton School brass twin handled vase

Description

A brass twin handled vase with repousse owl design made by the Newton School of Metal Workers from a design attributed to John Williams, circa 1900.

This particular design appears in the Newton School design archive . The hand drawn design is unsigned but from the style it can safely be attributed to John Williams.

The Newton School made many of these twin handled vases with different repousse designs to each side. The owl was a favoured motif of the Arts and Crafts designers and John Williams used it extensively, along with many other birds, in his designs for the School.
