Hukin and Heath silver napkin ring

Description

A silver napkin ring by Hukin and Heath, hallmarked for 1901.

I found this napkin ring fascinating. The Art Nouveau swirling ivy design is very reminiscent of Kate Harris’s iconic ivy designs for William Hutton and Sons from around the same period. I have struggled to find any other similar designs by Hukin and Heath so it was a bit of a mystery.

I I am always very interested in over-struck makers marks on silver and when you look very closely at this piece there may be a clue to the original designers. The Hukin and Heath mark has been struck over an earlier Levi and Salaman mark. I haven’t been able to get to the bottom of the mystery but it’s a very attractive and interesting piece all the same.
