Item 317a

Potteries Guild of Cripples copper dish

Description

Delighted to have this piece back with me again. A small hand hammered copper dish set with three dark green ceramic roundels made by the Potteries Guild of Cripples, circa 1905.

This design was used frequently by the Guild around this time and dishes in various metals were made in different sizes, all set with ceramic roundels. Unusually, the ceramic roundels used by Potteries Guild are not Ruskin Pottery roundels. Millicent Sutherland had many links to firms in the Potteries including Bernard Moore, Doultons and William Moorcroft. Who provided the roundels remains a mystery.

A pewter dish with this design can be seen in the Potteries Guild of Cripples showroom catalogue (No.579), circa 1905.
