Norman & Ernest Spittle brass charger
Description
A brass charger with repousse serpents head designed and made by Norman & Ernest Spittle, circa 1900.
This particular design appears in an archive of designs by the Spittle brothers held by the Frome Museum and is a great example of the early designs by Norman Spittle. The design is numbered 625 which dates it to around 1897 when the brothers were just starting out in business together. The serpent head appears on many early designs by Norman Spittle who was the firm’s primary designer up until his death in 1902.
This design also appears in a newspaper called “The Ladies Field” in December of 1902. It was illustrated in an advert for Art Fittings Limited who were London agents for the Spittle brothers between 1902 and 1906.
In beautiful condition with a lovely even patina.
