Yattendon Class motto tankard
Description
A copper tankard with repousse motto decoration made by the Yattendon Class, circa 1900.
The copper tankard or twin handled vase is a really lovely example of the best work by the Yattendon Class and the design was likely the work of Elizabeth Waterhouse. The body of the tankard has repeating repousse circles and wrapped around the top edge is the Motto “A Merry Heart Goes All the Way”. This is a quote from a song in Shakespeare’s play, The Winters Tale. It became a popular English quote.
This has to be one of my all time favourite designs by the Yattendon Class. In lovely condition.
