Yattendon Class copper tankard
Description
A nice example of a copper tankard by the Yattendon Class, circa 1910.
The work of the Yattendon Class is thankfully very easy to spot owing to the style of the designs and the background hammer marks. This is a nice example of a small tankard with a very attractive repousse pattern of swirls and stylised flowers typical of the designs produced by Elizabeth Waterhouse and other family members.
This piece is in great condition and has the added bonus of having a makers name in pen ink on the underside along with the typical design number. After some quick research I believe this piece is made by George Nicholson who was born in Mortimer, Berkshire. His link to the nearby Yattendon village came through his wife who was the daughter of the Yattendon village blacksmith and carpenter.
