A E Jones copper and silver vase
Description
A copper and silver vase made by A E Jones, circa 1910.
This is a well documented design by Albert Edward Jones’s firm and I believe it dates to circa 1910-1920. It is pictured on page 18 of the book “A. Edward Jones, Master Silversmith of Birmingham” written by Arthur Sutton.
The hand planished copper vase has a silver collar with three silver floral drops. It is likely that many of these mixed metal designs by Jones originated at Jesson, Birkett & Co. At some point between 1905 and 1910 he took over some of their designs. The design number “2518” is stamped on the base.
This particular vase was retailed by Ogdens of Harrogate and London. The firm was formed in 1893 and still exists today. A E Jones Ltd was a commercial firm who frequently retailed their wares through others.
