Norman & Ernest Spittle finger plates
Description
A set of four copper finger plates made by Norman & Ernest Spittle, circa 1906.
A rare set of finger plates which can be firmly attributed to the firm of Norman & Ernest Spittle. This particular design appears in the Singer Archive at the Frome Museum. Norman & Ernest Spittle became Spital & Clark which eventually merged with J W. Singer in 1914. The Singer archive contains many of the early designs by the Spittle brothers. The design number for this plate is “9635” which I believe dates it to 1906.
There are three finger plates with a hand hammered finish and one with a smooth finish which is typical of the firm who often offered a planished version for the “Arts and Crafts” look.
In good condition overall and recently polished.
