Item 471

Fivemiletown Class brass card tray

Description

A brass card tray made by the Fivemiletown Class, circa 1900.

This is a well known design by the Fivemiletown Class who made quite a number of these small, beautifully worked, card trays. The design of a peacock amongst flowers is likely by John Williams who worked with the Class over a number of years and produced many of their designs. Peacocks were one of his favourite motifs.

The small tray is very well executed with incredibly fine detailed repousse work. It has a “pie crust” edge which was commonly used on small dishes and trays.
