John H. Green pewter candlesticks

Description

A well made pair of pewter candlesticks attributed to John. H. Green, circa 1925.

The candlesticks are hand planished with very subtle chased decoration on the bases and candleholders. The underside of the candlesticks are stamped with a JHG monogram.

This piece, and others, are currently being researched but I believe it to be made by a John H. Green who was based in Debden, near Saffron Walden, around 1925. A John H. Green appeared in The Studio Yearbook of 1925, page 142, showing copper, silver plated and brass items of a similar style. It is possible that this is the same John Green that previously worked for the Artificers Guild and was mentioned many times in The Studio as a Guild craftsman. All yet to be proven!
