Duchess of Sutherland Cripples Guild copper buttons

Description

Two copper buttons with ceramic roundels by the Duchess of Sutherland Cripples Guild, circa 1910.

The copper buttons are hand planished and have ceramic blue and green roundels. The ceramic roundels look very much like Ruskin Pottery roundels which were used by many others Arts and Crafts makers of the period.

The buttons were shown in the early catalogues by the Guild, circa 1905 (Design No. 217). They were available in copper, silvered copper and silver with “enamels”. This pair of buttons have the DSCG mark under a dual coronet which dates them to after 1907.

These buttons are in fantastic condition for their age with a lovely patina. They were purchased from America where a lot of D.S.C.G. metalwork seems to have ended up.
