Norman and Ernest Spittle firescreen
A stunning copper and iron firescreen made by Norman and Ernest Spittle, circa 1905.
This particular firescreen appears in the Norman and Ernest Spittle catalogue dating from around 1905 (Design No. 4100). It also appears in the Art Fittings Limited catalogue from the same period.
This piece is most likely designed by Norman Spittle around 1900. The repousse copper screen has a distinctly Spittle design and the black painted iron frame has splayed legs, scrolled edges at the bottom, and two bosses either side of the carrying handle at the top. In great condition with no real issues to note.. it’s a very rare piece of work by the Birmingham based brothers.
Dimensions: 23″ wide and 33″ high and 9″ deep
Condition: Good. The front of the firescreen has been polished relatively recently but has some patina. Some very small rust patches on the painted iron frame
