Norman and Ernest Spittle fire screen
Description
A stunning copper and iron fire screen made by Norman and Ernest Spittle, circa 1905.
This particular fire screen appears in the Norman and Ernest Spittle catalogue dating from around 1905 (Design No. 4100). It also appears in the Art Fittings Limited catalogue from the same period.
This piece is most likely designed by Norman Spittle around 1900. The repousse copper screen has a distinctly Spittle design and the black painted iron frame has splayed legs, scrolled edges at the bottom, and two bosses either side of the carrying handle at the top. In great condition with no real issues to note.. it’s a very rare piece of work by the Birmingham based brothers.
