G. L Connell silver inkwell

Description

A silver inkwell made by A E Jones for George Lawrence Connell in 1911.

The silver inkwell has a hand planished finish all over. The base sits on six ball feet and the central section is riveted to the base, A hemispherical lid is hinged to the central section. The base is fully hallmarked for G. L. Connell, Birmingham, 1911. The lid is also separately hallmarked.

It is well documented that A E Jones made pieces for other makers and retailers. A E Jones Ltd was very much a commercial venture. This piece was almost certainly made by A E Jones Ltd and is an adaptation of an earlier design by Richard Llewellyn Rathbone. Dimensions:    6″ at widest diameter and just under 4″ high

Weight:   Approximately 250 grams

Condition:   Good. One very very small ding on the lid which is hardly noticeable
