A E Jones silver sugar dredger
Description
A silver sugar dredger made by A E Jones in 1907 and retailed via Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd of Sheffield.
A lovely piece of early A E Jones silver with the typical hand planished finish and a nice brand leaf repousse design around the upper section. This broad leaf design is often attributed to Bernard Cuzner who worked closely with Jones in the early years of the firm.
The dredger is hallmarked for Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd, Sheffield, 1907. It was not uncommon for Jones pieces to have been retailed through other firms bearing their own makers mark. Even from the early days, A E Jones Ltd was a very commercial venture and he made a many pieces for a number of well known suppliers including G. L. Connell, Payne & Sons and many others.
This particular design of sugar dredger is shown in the 1910 A E Jones catalogue (No.457).
