D.S.C.G. silver plated ash tray
Description
A small silver plated ash tray/pin dish made by the Duchess of Sutherland Cripples Guild, circa 1910.
The ashtray has a Tudor rose design in repousse plus the makers marks for the D.S.C.G.
The ash tray is shown in the 1910 showroom catalogue (No.279a) where it is described as a design adapted from an Italian seventeenth century model lent by John Sargent Esq., R.A. This is almost certainly the famous society portrait painter, John Singer Sargent. Millicent was painted by Sargent in 1904, link below:
