Faulkner Bronze Company Ltd copper and glass biscuit barrel

Description

A very rare nouveau, almost Loetz style, copper and glass biscuit barrel made by Faulkner Bronze Company Ltd. The design is very unusual with a hand planished copper body around an iridescent green glass container.

The biscuit barrel has a brass handle and a copper and brass detachable lid. The collar on the container is at a slight angle which may or may not be part of the biscuit barrel design,

The base of the biscuit barrel is marked with “Cobral Regd Ware”, “Pat. App. For” and a very early makers mark for Faulkner Bronze Co, “FBC Ld” in an inverted triangle. This mark, and the fact that the patent was not yet approved, dates this piece to 1901.

Faulkner Bronze Company Ltd sold many of the the “Cobral Ware” range at their various sales exhibitions. The fascinating image attached shows a sales exhibition stand from 1901.
