Alfred Hughes copper candlestick
Description
A copper candlestick made by master craftsman, Alfred Hughes, circa 1905.
Probably one of my favourite candlesticks ever. This candlestick has a bit of everything going on. The hand planishing is beautifully executed and the riveted construction is a joy. The overall size and proportion is just perfect. Alfred Hughes worked with Richard Llewellyn Rathbone but was a master craftsman in his own right. He exhibited at multiple Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society exhibitions and taught metalworking at the Sir John Cass Technical Institute in London. I was so impressed when I first found this candlestick that I wrote a brief article all about it:
